Step-by-Step Guide
to Tattoo Aftercare

First 24 Hours:

  • Gently remove the protective bandage after 2 to 3 hours post-tattoo. Leaving the bandage on for longer may cause bacteria build-up.

Cleaning the Tattoo:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before touching your tattoo to prevent the risk of infection.
  • Rinse the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free, anti-bacterial soap. Use a gentle circular motion with your fingertips.
  • Pat the area dry with a fresh, clean towel. Do not rub or use a towel that may leave lint on the tattoo.
  • Starting the second day, repeat this cleaning process 2-3 times daily until fully healed.

Applying Aftercare:

  • After cleaning, allow the tattoo to dry for 3 to 4 hours before applying any aftercare salve or lotion
  • When applying the aftercare, use a minimal amount. The tattoo shouldn’t look greasy or slimy after applying the product.
  • The tattoo will for a scab, and that is normal. Don’t pick or scratch at the tattoo, adn don’t soak it.

Recommended Products:

  • Griffin Salve, AfterInked, or any plain white hand lotion like Libriderm or Jergens
  • NO PETROLEUM PRODUCTS

Avoid Damaging Activities:

  • Swimming and soaking: Do not submerge your tattoo in water for extended periods in the first two weeks. Showers are fine, but avoid swimming and baths until the tattoo is completely healed.
  • Sun exposure: Avoid direct sun exposure on your tattoo for at least 3 to 4 weeks. Once healed, always use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your tattoo from fading.
  • Picking and scratching: Picking or scratching at scabs and itches can damage the tattoo and lead to scarring. Gently pat the area if it itches.
  • Exercise: Avoid heavy exercises or activities that may cause excessive stretching or rubbing of the tattooed area for at least 2 weeks.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Keep your tattoo clean and dry as much as possible during the healing process.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid friction on the tattooed area.
  • Ensure your bedding is clean to minimize the risk of bacteria and infection.
